Activating Social Login Extension
ProfileGrid Social Login extension is required to enable social login on your login form.
Activate the Social Login extension from the Extensions page under the ProfileGrid menu. Once activated, the extension becomes part of the Global Settings. The extension enables social login on any group.
Clicking on “Extension” in the settings menu will open the settings page.
Here, enable the option to let WordPress members log in with their social accounts. Choose the user groups where this feature will apply, and select the social platforms for login options.
As shown in the image above, Facebook was selected as the login method. Before enabling social login for your WordPress site, be sure to complete a few necessary steps.
Retrieving App ID and App Secret
As soon as you select one of the social platforms, you need to provide a ‘App ID’ and ‘App Secret’ key. You can retrieve this information by creating a ‘Developers Account’ on the social network site. For example, information regarding Facebook App ID and App Secret is shown below.
Simply select “Create a New App,” and your new “App ID” and “App Secret” will automatically appear on the screen. Enter these numbers in the appropriate fields and click “Save.” Then, check the frontend to see it working successfully.
The above screenshot shows the frontend view of a login page with a Facebook login tab.
Features of the Social Login Extension
The ProfileGrid social login extension allows WordPress users to log in using the following options:
- Google+
The social login extension automatically imports all necessary information, including profile images, from the selected social network when a user registers. Site developers can use the ‘Autofill’ setting to control how much data is imported. The extension also adds a ‘ProfileGrid Social Login’ widget, which can be placed anywhere on the site.
Additionally, the admin can filter the user list based on the social networks they registered with, using an option available in the backend.
You can also integrate multiple social login accounts, giving users the choice of which one to use.
For example, if your site is for professionals, offering a LinkedIn login option can automatically add the user’s qualifications, work experience, and feedback from previous employers to their profile.
A study by Janrain found that 66% of users prefer social login because it saves time, and 54% will leave a site if it’s not available.
Social login on WordPress makes registration as easy as a single click, speeding up the process and helping you verify that users are genuine through their social accounts.
